Centre of Theatre for Management inaugurated in ASBM University

A National Discourse on Theatre, “Abhinaya: Wisdom and Reflections” was organized by the School of Liberal Arts of ASBM University in association with Dhauli Review Trust for two days in ASBM campus.

Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, Founder and President of the University was the Chief Guest. It was graced by the veteran stage and Cine Artist Dr. Mohan Agashe and Shri M. K. Raina, and writers, directors and critics Dr. Rajeev Naik, Shri Udayan Vajpeyi, Prof. Abhilash Pillai, Dr. Satyabrata Rout, Dr. Sanghamitra Mishra, Shri Samanjasa Das and Shri Manu Dash.

Prof. Pattanayak, highlighted the pedagogic utility of theatre in management study as a means of practical exposure to understand nuances of effective management style.

On this occasion, the ASBM Centre of Theatre for Management was inaugurated by the eminent stage cinestar Dr. Mohan Agashe and Shri M. K. Raina. In his key note address, Dr. Agashe pointed out that education and management focuss on cognitive application in which theatre will add emotion as a component. Therefore, this unique initiative by ASBM University is first of its kind in India, which will add substantial value to the learners of management. Shri M. K. Raina discussed the role of indian traditional and cultural space which will facilitate the vertical holistic education instead of a vertical materialist one.

The event on release of an English translation of Odia master piece “Nali Pan Rani O’ Kala Pan Tika” of the veteran dramatist Shri Biswajit Dash. It has been translated into English “Queen of Hearts and Ace of Spades” by his son Mr. Samanjasa Dash.

The National Discourse on Theatre consisted of two technical sessions on Role of Theatre in Education and Theatre and Society. The panelists were Shri Udayan Vajpeyi, Dr. Rajeev Naik, Shri Samanjasa Das, Shri Pradosh Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Sanghamitra Mishra, Prof. Abhilash Pillai, Prof. Satyabrata Rout. Shri Manu Dash delivered the welcome address at the beginning and proposed the vote of thanks at the end.

The event was attended by a large number of drama and theatre groups from all over Odisha in addition to the faculty members and students of the University.
