Bhubaneswar, May 9: In a significant development, the Odisha government has given its nod to 11 projects, amounting to a total investment of INR 2,841 crore. The projects, slated to be established in various districts including Bolangir, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh, are expected to pave the way for job opportunities for approximately 3,721 individuals. The decision was made during a recent meeting of the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA), chaired by Chief Secretary P K Jena.
Out of the 11 approved projects, nine were presented by firms that participated in the Make in Odisha conclave held in December last year. The spectrum of industries covered by these projects is diverse, encompassing sectors such as aluminium, steel, chemicals, plastics, food processing and packaging, textiles and apparel, tourism, and renewable energy. Noteworthy ventures include a steel plant by RCR Steel Works Private Limited, set to be established at Jamda in Mayurbhanj district with an investment of INR 896.98 crore, projected to create job opportunities for 750 individuals.
The committee also greenlit proposals for the expansion of Utkal Alumina International Limited in Rayagada district and Hindalco Industries Limited in Sambalpur, with anticipated investments of around INR 1,000 crore, likely to generate employment for 500 people. Additional projects that received approval include a resort by Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Limited at Somolo Island of Chilika Lake in Ganjam district, worth INR 228.45 crore, and a manufacturing unit by Ion Exchange (India) Limited in Paradip, requiring an investment of INR 303 crore and expected to create job opportunities for 150 individuals. Furthermore, Indian Stitches Private Limited will establish a fabric processing plant at a cost of INR 100 crore, contributing to employment opportunities for approximately 1,000 people.
The approval of these projects showcases the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and creating job opportunities across various sectors in Odisha. With substantial investments and a diverse range of industries being targeted, the state is poised for further development and expansion in the coming years, benefitting both the local economy and its workforce.
