In a significant stride towards sustainable industrial development, the ACME Group, in collaboration with Japanese company IHI Corporation, is set to invest Rs 60,000 crore in Odisha to establish a cutting-edge green ammonia plant. The announcement, made under the ‘Make In Odisha’ initiative, positions the state as a key player in fostering eco-friendly industrial practices.

The green ammonia plant, earmarked for construction in Gopalpur, is slated to be a game-changer in the realm of sustainable industrial production. The project, supported by IHI Corporation, envisions the creation of a 1.2 million-tonne facility, requiring a total investment of approximately $5 billion.

The Odisha Chief Minister’s Office took to social media to share the momentous news, stating, “Giving a major boost to the ‘Make In Odisha’ initiative, ACME Group in partnership with IHI Corporation will set up a green ammonia plant at Gopalpur with an investment of Rs 60,000 crore.” The Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, expressed gratitude to the senior executives of the companies for their involvement in Odisha’s growth story and extended best wishes for the project.

A sprawling 340-acre plot has been allocated at the Gopalpur Industrial Park for the establishment of what is being touted as India’s first green ammonia plant. The project holds the potential to not only revolutionize the industrial landscape in the region but also position itself as a potential contender for the title of the “world’s first such plant,” as highlighted by the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office.

The move towards green ammonia production aligns with global efforts to transition towards sustainable and environmentally conscious practices. Ammonia is a crucial component in various industrial processes, and the adoption of green production methods is seen as a vital step in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner, greener future.

The investment injection of Rs 60,000 crore represents a significant commitment towards building a more sustainable and environmentally friendly industrial infrastructure in Odisha. As the project progresses, it is expected to contribute not only to the economic growth of the region but also to the global efforts in mitigating the impact of industrial activities on the environment.
